Look What My Kid Can Do:0)

Where this interest came from I don't know, but it has been a longstanding one for Avery.  Since she was very young, she has loved visiting fabric stores and getting lost in the possibilities of creation.  In fact, on one such trip her Grandma bought her an old pattern book for a few dollars and she would pour over the pages, studying each design in turn.  She would take any fabric remnants she could get her hands on and create different things for her stuffies (who were happy recipients of her largesse) and her cats (who were much less so).

We were delighted to learn about a local quilting store, Sewing with Class,  that offered sewing classes to kids.  We signed her up and since February she has been going for weekly lessons.  First on the agenda was to make a drawstring bag to keep her sewing supplies in:

Then she created a lovely apron for me from the scraps:0) This one was not done in class, but on her own volition.

Next she finished up a nightshirt!  How she loves the variegated dye on this fabric!

Here she is at class at work on her latest project:  It was her last day until classes start again next fall.

And here she is wearing her creation!  A lovely pair of yoga pants- complete with the tree? pose, lol!

And apparently she had enough time at the end of class to use her scraps for a mini drawstring bag.

And.....

Hold on to your socks because this is BIG!  The most fabulous news ever!!!!  Like totally unparalleled goodness.

I scrapbooked.

I scrapbooked 5 pages!

I scrapbooked 5 pages in the MOST amazing location!!!

I scrapbooked 5 pages in the MOST amazing location with the MOST AMAZING PEOPLE!!!!!

It was retreat time for the Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine team and for the first time I was able to join the ladies at the Bull River Guest Ranch, nestled in the mountains near Fernie BC.  As one of the ladies said, "This place is more than a retreat.  It is sanctuary." What a heart filling, laughter fueled creative weekend.  And you may laugh at my output of 5 pages, but I'll be the first one to tell you that I am a slow scrapbooker.  Add in watching the magazine's creative team work their magic, over-the-top wonderful food, a ranch to explore, good hearted company, and a hot tub and we'll call that a few distractions!

Basic Grey paper, Maya Road chipboard.  Not my favourite for sure, but Avery told me she liked this page best from the weekend so that of course makes it extra special!

I've been getting the Basic Grey page of the month kits from Scrapbooking Fanatics which I love!  You get lots of paper and embellishments, a layout idea but you don't have to use it because nothing is precut.  Always a happy surprise each month:0) Also used some Riff Raff chipboard (sadly no longer in business), Close to My Heart stamps, and a WR Memory Keepers doily spritzed with Tattered Angels ink.

Prima and Echo Park papers, spellbinders and sizzix dies, Kaiser craft gems, Prima flower and lace, Glitter Ritz glitter applied with Be Creative tape and a ScribblzArt title (not sure if she still does scrapbook titles or is just focused on wall decals).  I think this is my favourite from the weekend!

7 Gypsies paper and Prima mistable canvas.  Prima bling and flowers, 7 gypsies paper clip, a ribbon flower made with American crafts ribbon, Girl's Paperie and Fancy Pants letters.  Unless this was my favourite!

Basic Grey... I think all of it!  Except for a little Colorbox Spritz in the background:0)
